The town was founded in the 16th century to mine iron ore. Mining later gave rise to a local iron industry that included locomotive manufacturing. And it was this industry that brought Zorge its greatest fame: In 1842, the machine factory produced the first steam locomotive for the state railway of the Duchy of Brunswick-L\u00fcneburg, which is thus also considered the first locomotive manufactured in Germany.<\/p><p>Today, a full-scale model remains, which you can view alongside a Normag tractor manufactured in Zorge. You won\u2019t want to miss it! <\/p><p>In addition, since 2021, Zorge has had its own hiking pin, officially recognized by the Harzer Wandernadel.
